We paired 5 neuroscientists from Harvard, NYU, Columbia and the University of Washington with 5 acclaimed NYC-based designers to cocreate works of art that translate cutting edge research into tangible and immersive experiences. From how memory works in the human brain to the interworkings of the vomeronasal gland in mice, these designers worked with their partner scientists to explore the reaches of what is possible when design and science collide. Their collaborations were featured in a Chelsea exhibit in July of 2016. Read more about the exhibit here.
Following the critically acclaimed first cohort, we expanded our model to feature larger teams within a university setting in the research triangle. We are leading and facilitating collaborations between faculty and students in the College of Sciences and College of Design at North Carolina State University. From dark matter to designer microbes, these design teams are creating engaging and relatable experiences for the public to interact with. We're bringing science and society together in a large-scale exhibit opening Friday May 18.
